“History is a clock that people use to tell their time of day. It is a compass they use to find themselves.”

HISTORY

Student Fellowship for Blacks, Inc. (SFB) is a national non-profit organization established in 1976 by Carl W. Holifield and Ronald L. Orr to award free monies to students of African descent, attending black colleges/universities and to aid in the survivorship of historically black colleges and universities. SFB is dedicated to aiding students, who believe that success lies in self-sufficiency instead of dependency, thus supporting and financially strengthening our communities. For fellowship consideration, applicants must be majoring in one of the following fields: Accounting, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Communication, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Political Science.

For more than 30 years, SFB has been able to electrify and unite our determined, dedicated residents, commercial, non-profits, governmental, and community leaders. With their support, SFB has awarded more than $161,000 in grants to deserving undergraduate and graduate students. To fulfill our mission, throughout the year SFB participates in various community events in Indianapolis: matinees, casino nights, radio-thons, bingo nights, car washes and fashion shows. The Board of Directors of the Student Fellowship for Blacks, Inc. acknowledges the Executive Committee as one of the main reasons for SFB’s prosperity.
